ELITE ATHLETE WELLBEING

This is where the magic happens. The Elite Athlete Wellness Unit (EAWU) is the high-performance area of SporTT. The Unit’s mandate is to take a 360-degree approach to enhancing the development of prospective podium athletes to elite international status. The aim? To increase the cadre of elite athletes representing Trinidad and Tobago.

Athletes access EAWU services through their respective National Governing Body for sport (NGB). The NGB will then make a formal request for the service required by the athlete or coach.

This approach allows SporTT’s training specialists to monitor performance and help the athlete develop an individually tailored regime. The NGB can also use this data to plan its sports development trajectory and support its podium prospects more effectively.

The unit ensures athletes are trained physically, technically and mentally:

Physical – Expert staff work towards improving strength, conditioning, speed, power and agility so athletes can attain and maintain a high level of fitness.

Technical – Increasing athletes’ skill level is fundamental to their development. To do this, qualified coaches will help them fine-tune sport-specific techniques and skill execution. Coaches, too, will be trained and further developed towards elite coaching status.

Mental – The psychological aspect of athlete preparation is critical to athlete performance. Sport and Performance Psychology staff will deliver the services needed to facilitate this mental development and enhance performance.
