SporTT Empowers Primary School Teachers Through Cricket Workshops

The Community Sports Department of SporTT successfully hosted a series of Cricket Workshops for Primary School Teachers across Trinidad in February 2026, equipping educators with the skills and confidence to introduce and deliver cricket programmes within their schools.

The workshops were conducted across three districts, bringing together teachers from a wide cross-section of schools and communities.

Port of Spain & Environs

Dates: 5-6 February 2026
Venue: East Mucurapo Secondary School
A total of 46 teachers participated in this two-day session, facilitated by Vinood Maharaj, Anisa Mohammed, and Merissa Aguilleira, with support from Officers Matthew Serrant, Osei Campbell, and Chad Rowley.

North Eastern District

Dates: February 9–10, 2026
Venues: Guaico Secondary School & Toco Secondary School
The workshop engaged 13 teachers, led by facilitator Anisa Mohammed, supported by Officers Renele Forde, Osei Campbell, and Chad Rowley, along with volunteer Marlon Richards.

South Eastern District

Dates: February 26–27, 2026
Venues: St. Mary’s Government Primary School & Rio Claro West Secondary School
This leg of the programme saw participation from representatives of 36 schools. Sessions were facilitated by Merissa Aguilleira, Navin Stewart, and Allem Mohammed, with support from Officers Desiree Mitchell and Hydaine Harper-Simmons, and coaching assistance from Daniel Cooper.

Building Skills and Confidence

Across all locations, teachers were exposed to practical, hands-on training designed to make cricket accessible and enjoyable for young students. Key focus areas included:

  • Basic cricket skills such as batting, bowling, and fielding
  • Fun, safe, and engaging physical education activities using cricket
  • Techniques for managing large groups of students
  • Building confidence to effectively deliver cricket programmes in schools

All participants received certificates of participation upon completion of the workshops.

Strengthening Grassroots Cricket

This initiative forms part of SporTT’s ongoing commitment to grassroots sport development. By investing in teacher training, SporTT is creating more opportunities for students across Trinidad and Tobago to be introduced to cricket in a structured and enjoyable way.

Through programmes like these, SporTT continues to support the growth of the sport while promoting physical activity, teamwork, and positive youth development in schools nationwide.
