The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) successfully held its 2022 Trinidad and Tobago leg of the Hero CPL T20 Cricket Tournament with games held at the Queen’s Park Oval and the Brian Lara Cricket Academy from 13 – 18 September 2022.
As part of the government’s investment in CPL, the Partnerships & Alliances Department embarked on a collaborative initiative with the Marketing and Production Team of CPL and Tourism Trinidad Limited, with the aim of promoting Trinidad and Tobago as a sporting destination and showcasing the National Aquatic Centre (NAC) and National Racquet Centre (NRC) as arguably some of the best sporting facilities in the Caribbean.
As you are aware, these facilities have hosted several major tournaments including the recently concluded PanAm Aquatics Swimming Age Group Championships and the Davis Cup by Rakuten – Americas Group IV and continues to be a major element of the sport tourism drive for the country. With world class facilities, a vibrant industry and competent human capital, T&T is poised to become the hub for sport tourism in the Caribbean.
The marketing initiative consisted of the creation of two (2) video features and included appearances from international cricket athletes Chris Green (Australia) and Migael Pretorius (South Africa) of the Jamaica Tallawahs, Tim Siefert (New Zealand) of Trinbago Knight Riders and renowned sports presenters Tanvi Shah and Guatam Bhimani.
The engagement also allowed for the interaction and feature of some of T&T’s junior athletes in fields of Tennis, Swimming and Water polo. The videos were publicised in the pre-match commentary of the TV broadcast for the Trinbago Knight Riders matches and on CPL social media platforms, allowing for the further marketing and promotion of our sport facilities to an international market.
