MEDIA RELEASE
The Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SporTT) advises the public that Phase Four of repairs at Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago, is scheduled to be completed in March 2025.
The Stadium was closed on December 24, 2024, to conduct the renovations, which include repairs to the plumbing system, main pavilion, the change room facilities and the air conditioning system. The works are being managed by the Urban Development Company of Trinidad and Tobago (UDeCOTT).
There are also plans to update the athletic track at Dwight Yorke Stadium, with an international track specialist expected to visit the facility next week to conduct an assessment before the related works can be scheduled.
In October 2024, stakeholders were informed of plans to close the venue to facilitate these works. However, the Sports Company had facilitated requests to use the venue during this period where feasible. The last major event hosted at Dwight Yorke Stadium was the Tobago Football Association (TFA) final on December 1st. In addition, SporTT received one request by a Tobago-based athlete to train at the facility. This application was also approved.
To date, formal requests to utilise the facility were submitted by the National Association of Athletics Administrations of Trinidad and Tobago (NAAATT) to host track and field events on February 9th and February 25th-26th at the Stadium. These requests have been approved since UDeCOTT has confirmed that use on these days will not impact the project’s work schedule.
Through NAAATT, athletes from Tobago clubs will also have access for training on weekdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Any requests to use Dwight Yorke Stadium must be done through the SporTT Bookings Department and will be subject to approval to minimise disruption of ongoing works.
The renovations at Dwight Yorke Stadium are being conducted in phases to avoid extended closure of the facility and to minimise the impact on athlete training and sporting activities.
Further works are planned as 2025 progresses, including electrical updates, replacement of the elevator, additional plumbing works, structural steel refurbishment and upgrade of the scoreboard. These dates will be announced once they are confirmed.
SporTT apologises for the inconvenience caused to users of the Dwight Yorke Stadium. However, the measures taken are necessary to upgrade the facility and to promote the safety and security of our athletes, supporters and sporting bodies.
