GILBERT PARK: A STAPLE FOR SPORT IN CENTRAL TRINIDAD

Under SporTT management since July 2007, California’s Gilbert Park has been a staple for cricket and football in Central Trinidad over the years.

The first recorded cricket match here took place roughly six months before Trinidad and Tobago achieved independence: February 1962. The match? A warmup between T&T’s Colts and the touring Indian team that would lose the Test series 5-0. In the 1970s, the ground was a popular venue for first class cricket. It has also hosted the famous North-South (Cricket) Classic and junior West Indies competitions.

Gilbert Park has hosted training and development programmes that have produced players of national and West Indies calibre. The Gilbert Park football field was also previously the home ground for W Connection F.C.

Apart from the cricket and football fields, Gilbert Park also features a pavilion, clubhouse, Model Car Racetrack and a car park.
