National Cycling Velodrome

The National Cycling Velodrome – Balmain, Couva

It’s hard not to notice the large oval shaped, bright orange building as you traverse Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway. But the National Cycling Velodrome (NCV) is more than just style; it’s internationally recognised as a ‘UCI Satellite Centre’ for cycling development.

Officially opened on July 23^rd, 2016, the facility was built for competition and training at International, Regional and National levels in Track Cycling.

Additionally, the 3,000 square feet multipurpose centre court of the Velodrome can be modified to accommodate Basketball, Netball, Volleyball, Martial Arts and Gymnastics.

The National Cycling Velodrome is part of a larger Sporting Complex at Balmain Couva that also features:

• Ato Boldon Stadium
• The National Aquatic Centre
• The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association Hotel (Home of Football)
• The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association Recreational Centre
• The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association National Beach Soccer Pitch

The NCV has a total seating capacity of 2,504 surrounding its 250m wooden track (Schuermann Designed and Built).

The facility has hosted the Commonwealth Youth Games 2023, Elite Pan American Track Cycling Championships 2017, Elite & U-23 National Track Cycling Championships (annually), Avery Bradley Skills Academy – Basketball Camp, Sport Youth Camps and for other various National Championships such as Martial Arts, Cheerleading and Volleyball.

In December 2022, the facility was officially sanctioned as a ‘UCI WCC Satellite Centre’, which means the NCV can be fully utilised for the development of cyclists, coaches, and mechanics to enhance their overall quality.

It became the sixth UCI satellite centre around the world, and the first in the Caribbean.
