The Honourable Shamfa Cudjoe, Minister of Sport and Community Development, on behalf of the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago handed over the newly refurbished Ato Boldon Recreational Ground (formerly known as the Bourg Mulatresse Recreation Ground) to the San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation on Tuesday.

During Minister Cudjoe’s address at the handover ceremony, she said, “In a community like this, recreational grounds are a critical part of the social and economic fabric. So we have a duty; to maintain; to upkeep; to secure; to preserve; to even protect facilities of this nature. It may seem simple to you, and you may see more fancy works in other communities but in a community like this, this little structure and this little field is of significant importance!”

SporTT was represented by Director Marilyn Gordon as well as Annesha Colley, Head, Projects Execution and Project Managers Leon Legendre and Julien Richardson.

Mr. Anthony Roberts, Chairman delivered remarks and Mrs. Valarie Boscombe, CEO and Eldon Coker, Councillor of the San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation were also present at the event.

Refurbishment works at the large facility included:
– Design & Construction of a new pavilion
– Refurbishment of Cricket Practice Nets
– Construction of Outfield
– Construction of Cricket Turf Wicket
– Supply and Installation of Aluminium Bleachers

The Ato Boldon Recreation Ground will serve areas including Febeau Village, Santa Cruz Old Road, Bourg Mulatresse, La Canoa, Laventille Road and Lower Santa Cruz.

Part of the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago’s wide-ranging mandate is to provide oversight and project management on the upgrade and refurbishment of community grounds across Trinidad.
